Very easy drinking and soft. This has some of the typical beeswax and honey notes expected from Scapa along with some vanilla and citrus.

A peated Irish single malt distilled in 1992 and bottled in 2002 at 58.2% abv. Gather around, this is a bit of a secret, but any Single Malt Whiskey Society bottle designated '118' is supplied by the Cooley Distillery. The SMWS was founded back in 1983. Before that it was just a group of friends, then a cask-buying syndicate. Now, with branches all over the world and whiskies from over 120 distilleries maturing or bottled, the membership has grown to thousands. Bottles are given colourful names - this one is labeled 'Smoky bacon crisps with carbolic soap'... A lovely Cooley.

A single-cask single malt distilled at the Cooley Distillery in 1993 and bottled by the Single Malt Circle at cask strength back in 2008. It's a lot like a good Tyrconnell, with an extra kick from the higher proof. No peat here... The Single Malt Circle is a club comprised of mostly German, Austrian and Swiss members who are quite keen on single malt whisk(e)y.

Very delicate and light, with some crisp rye grain giving a prickly edge. This is a refreshing style of whiskey that works well with ice, a mixer or in classic whiskey based cocktails.

Another Irish whiskey brand that's turning into a distillery. Lord Mountcharles, owner of the famous castle and rock concert venue in Co Meath, launched this brand using Cooley whiskey, but when Beam bought the Co Louth distillery, they stopped supplying Slane Castle. Determined not to let the whiskey fade away, Lord Mountcharles set about building his own distillery on the grounds of the castle. The American Ambassador to Ireland broke ground on the new facility in September 2015. And with drinks giants Brown-Forman backing the new distillery, it's going to be a serious operation.

Another brand that bit the dust when Beam bought the Cooley Distillery. This was produced for Marks and Spencers and was very highly thought of when available. It's an unpeated malt, fruity and moreish.

Originally created for the Oddbins chain of shops. This is a peated Cooley malt, very much in the same style as early Connemara whiskeys.

A very rare old bottle from Cadenhead bottlers. This was distilled in 1967 and comes from a time when the distillery still malted barley on the premises. Slightly smoky with a rich and malty flavour.

Peppery and spicy to start with. Becomes softer as the taste evolves into grapefuit, banana, orange, dark chocolate and clove flavours.

A single cask Cooley bottled at 43% by French independents Celtic Whisky Compagnie. Another one presented without colouring or chill filtration, it's a decent 12 years old. Just 339 bottles were produced. French whisky writer Serge Valentin says the peat in this one reminded him of a Ledaig.

Lots of complexity for a 10 year old. Pears in chocolate, smoke, brine and malted grain flavours.

Named 'Green' because it is made using organic barley. Vibrant tropical fruit flavours with a whiff of smoke and gentle spiciness.
